Check Out SZA’s “Babylon” ft. Kendrick Lamar

After self-releasing two very well-received EPs (See.SZA.Run and S), Maplewood, New Jersey’s SZA, aka Solana Rowe, found herself in a very enviable position as Top Dawg Entertainment’s first female signing. With label-mates like Lamar Kendrick and the rest of the Black Hippy collective (School Boy Q, Ab Sould and Jay Rock) currently enjoying a gargantuan amount of success, a lot of eyes figure to be on SZA’s debut. The songstress absolutely delivers on “Babylon”, a sensuous and moody slow-burner that features both Mr. Lamar and an absurdly good G-Funk bassline. “Babylon” is best probably enjoyed in a dimly lit and smoke-filled room, so do that and then check this:

Z also features guest appearances from Chance The Rapper and Isiah Rashad, as well as production turns from the likes Mac Miller, XXYYXX and Toro y Moi. With all these heavy-hitters involved, expectations and buzz have been high, and SZA certainly didn’t disappoint. Z jumps genres and moods, but never strays from being a very enjoyable listen that comes highly recommended.

Currently SZA only has two live dates scheduled, but I’d wager that’ll be changing very soon. Those two festival appearances are listed below, as well as Kendrick’s full tour itinerary and a clip of the two performing Lamar’s “Swimming Pools” & “Poetic Justice” at last year’s American Music Awards.
