Today we’ve got something fabulous “From The Vault” for y’all: Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Eddie Floyd, Arthur Conley, The Mar-Keys and the legendary Booker T. & The MGs live in Norway in 1967, as captured by the BBC. So in other words: Southern Soul Music Heaven. The legendary Stax Records put together a tour in 1967, just before Redding’s death, that would go down as one of the all-time best Soul/RnB showcases the planet has seen. Redding, Sam & Dave, Eddie Floyd Arthur Conley, The Mar-Keys and Booker T. & the MGs are all legends, and here they’re in top form. The gang Stax has assembled here doesn’t just bring the house down, they level the entire neighborhood people.
The video captures the April 7, 1967 concert in Oslo, Norway near the end of the three-week tour that saw the titans of soul travel across Europe for the first time. If you have ever even remotely dug the “Stax Sound”, or the “Motown Sound” for that matter, you will absolutely be in music heaven for the next 58:04:
