Muhammad Ali Takes on Twitter (Video)
“I am the astronaut of boxing. Joe Louis and Dempsey were just jet pilots. I’m in a world of my own.”- Muhammad Ali
Ever since Muhammad Ali delivered his world-famous blow to Sonny Liston and was named heavy-weight champion of the world; eyes and ears have been on him. Known mostly for his self-exalting quotes a-plenty and his extreme confidence (with the moves to back it all up), Ali has always been in the spotlight — even up until his later years.
Down Goes Twitter!:
And, thanks to social media we can now keep up with him. Today Muhammad Ali has taken on Twitter! Ali joined today which is exactly the 50th anniversary of that magical moment of the TKO. I, for one am excited and a bit intrigued about just what might come from his account! Apparently his official website will be posting all of his known sayings, in a daily tweet-treat for the masses.
“There are no pleasures in a fight but some of my fights have been a pleasure to win.”– Muhammad Ali
The Man, The Legend:
But lest you think that all he is made up of is his infamous moves and sayings (“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee!”) there is more to him than meets the eye! Ali, AKA Cassius Clay, also is an outspoken humanitarian, spokesman for Parkinson’s Disease (he was diagnosed in 1984), and achieved the honor of participating in the 1960’s Olympics in Rome — many years later he walked in the ’96 Olympic opening ceremony in Atlanta.
In case you are curious to find out more about Ali and his life, you can book a trip down to his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky and check out the museum that has been erected in his honour — The Muhammad Ali Center. They were super supportive of his new venture in Twitter-land, and tweeted a message in his honor, complete with a picture and YouTube video of his defining moment against Liston.
Congrats Muhammad on your fiftieth anniversary of being legendary!
