Russian Pussy Riot Pounded, Whipped, Detained At Sochi! (Update: Video)

“Cossacks attacked us, they beat us with whips and abundantly sprayed us with pepper gas,”  Tolokonnikova tweeted.

Russian Cossacks attacked members of punk band ‘Pussy Riot’, with whips and pepper spray Wednesday as they prepared to perform in downtown Sochi. Six of the group’s members, wearing their trademark balaclavas and had just pulled out a guitar and microphone when at least 10 Russian (Cossack) security force members converged upon them.

In video footage, one Cossack can be seen spraying Nadezhda Tolokonnikova with pepper spray whilst whipping her and fellow group member Maria Alekhina with Cossack military horse whips. In the footage, Tolokonnikova was then thrown to the ground and whipped again.

Other officers violently ripped off group members’ masks and chucked the guitar in a trash can. The attack came one day after Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina were detained briefly by Sochi police and questioned about being implicated in a theft at their hotel. They were released and left the police station singing and raising their fists!

Some opinions ask, “How stupid must you be to arrest Pussy Riot at Sochi’s Olympic Games?” Certainly, the Media and Russian officials realize they are playing right into the hands of the political forces behind Pussy Riot and their movement against Putin’s Russia, right?! What is the end game for both sides on this? We will have to wait and see who makes the next move and gains the most points in this seeming chess game between Putin’s Russia, and the underdog ragtag punk band from Russia named, Pussy Riot.
