Truebrews Beer Reviews: Mad Hatter IPA

Abv: 5.8% | IBU 55 | Price: $9.99/6pk | American IPA

With a name like Mad Hatter you would expect some bizarre twist on the traditional IPA, right? Maybe it incorporates some wild new flavor like banana, peanut butter, pizza, or a few hits of LSD. Despite our expectation of crazy, unconventional ingredients this brew was surprisingly sane, but that’s not to say it wasn’t delicious.

It poured a deep, cloudy amber with a thick frothy head that emanated a symphony of citrusy hops and caramel malt. The beer ballad of flavor continued its opus with a crescendo of grapefruit, tangerine, bitter hops and just a hint of lemon. Finally, it concluded with a very smooth bitterness and an overall mild flavor that warranted several pints to follow.

Overall it’s a solid IPA, nothing too spectacular, but its mild flavor and fruit notes make it a solid session ale.
