Kingpin Double Red Ale Cuisine

Truebrews: Part 4, Kingpin Double Red Ale

Bridgeport Brewing, Portland, OR

Abv: 7.5% | 65 IBU | Price: $8.99/6pk | Double Amber Ale

We snagged this amber treat as part of a Bridgeport sampler pack at our local liquor store. It was on sale, so naturally we had to try it. We had never heard of Portland’s fourth biggest brewery so we were understandably skeptical of their ability to master such a hearty ale. It took only one sip to dispel our skepticism.

To start, this beer looks gorgeous. It pours a beautiful deep amber red with loads of dark head that begs you to take a sip. The aroma is exactly what an amber ale should smell like – dark caramel, toasted malt, spice and a hint of pine. After a noseful it tastes exactly like you would expect, but much, much better. A hearty toasted malt accented by earthy hops, rye, and caramel with a decent bite that reminds you this beer isn’t messing around.
